While the free ringtones services was available for the users of the land line telephone connection freely after the introduction of this service from AT&T. With respect to free ringtones in mobile phones, it was the Japanese who were credited with the introduction of customizable ring tones in the mobile phones. The first mobile phone which featured the free ringtones service was created in the year 1996. Some preset songs in MDI format were made available as the first free ring tone service for mobile phone users.
Later innovations after these allowed the user to not only listen to preset songs or tunes but also allowed the manufacturer to input original tunes or melodies in the mobile phone connection. Thus the users suddenly had multiple options to choose from for setting the free ringtones on their cell phone. This allowed the user to customize the ringtones according to their own individual taste.
It was later in the year 1998, in Finland, that the manufacturing of downloaded songs and melodies to the mobile phone facility was introduced. The downloading feature allows the users to easily download any songs or tunes to their mobile phone connection very easily.
